How does one get the courage to jump from the steep cliff of a safe in-demand corporate career into the unknown abyss of freelance entrepreneur? I recently sat down with Jill-of-all-trades; designer, art director, consultant and brand assessor, Katlyn Hovland to find out how she was able to make that jump into darkness with no guarantees of what lies below.
When I originally started to write this post, it was going to be about the amazing adventures I’ve had over the years on my annual snowboarding trip with a group of close friends. The amazing powder at Beaver Creek’s Glades. The time we road Park City during the Sundance Film Festival. And of course when we found a karaoke machine tucked away in a closet in our AirBnb and we were up until 4am singing horrible pop songs to a stuffed bear (that story will be for another time).
But every version I started to write all came back to one common theme, the importance of traveling with friends.
I see a distinct moment within history to use technology and media as an avenue to paint a clear and honest picture of what is happening around the world, and I hope to paint the picture in such a way that perspectives are shifted, action is taken, and hope is restored.
Photography is the avenue that can bring that perspective and the camera is the tool to get the job done.
In this Five Days with IVY, I broke down the research and focused on specific camera brands, which helped me narrow down the search and find one or two of my favorite travel cameras for each brand.
In all honesty, not since my first smartphone have I interacted with a piece of technology that has changed my life in so many ways. And no one else’s account of how they use their Apple Watch could have prepared me for how I use my Apple Watch and that’s been the beauty of discovering this device. I use it the way I want to use it.
The Apple Watch is truly a device that I didn’t know I needed, until I did.
So you’re thinking of getting a tattoo.
Don’t do it!
Who am I to tell you how to live your life?
However, for what it’s worth, I will give you a little insight into my thoughts and some thoughts from a few others on what drove them to get that first piece of skin art and whether they regretted it or not.
